WRMF Weather Risk Management Facility

Insurance products for small-scale agricultural production in developing countries.

The Weather Risk Management Facility (WRMF) is a joint initiative by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The goal is to encourage and protect investments in small scale agricultural production, enhancing local capacity and food security. This is achieved through the creation of insurance products to protect local farmers against climate related risks. The design of different insurance products is based on climate data collected with advanced remote sensing techniques. In collaboration with the Belgian organization VITO, Amigo Climate has conducted a sensitivity analysis to compare the performance of different remote sensing technologies to improve climate index insurance product offerings specifically for the context of Senegal.
